Eye Surgery Center
Providing cataract care since 1990
The Eye Surgery Center at Genstler Eye Center is dedicated to providing the best cataract correction possible. Opened in 1990, the Eye Surgery Center was one of the first state licensed, Medicare certified ambulatory surgery centers opened in Oregon.
Since 1990, thousands of patients have had their cataract correction done by Dr. Genstler and his warm and caring staff.
Our Exceptional Staff is Warm and Caring
Patients love the calm, relaxed atmosphere created by our staff who love working with patients who need cataract care. Our staff have many years of experience providing care to our patients. Ask them questions and tell them how you are feeling and they will have an answer or solution that will meet your needs.
You will find recliners rather than gurneys. Your surgery time will be reduced compared to lengthy hospital visits which allow you to get home sooner to your loved ones. Convenient parking is available a short distance from our covered drive-up entry. We encourage family and friends to stay throughout your treatment.
What to Expect on Your Surgery Day
Onyour surgery day, our staff will administer anesthesia that will help you feel comfortable and relaxed during the procedure. This anesthesia requires you to havesomeone availableto drive you to our surgery center before the procedure, then home afterward. The total process from walking in the door to waving good-bye is usuallyabout 60-90 minutes.
A follow-up appointment will be scheduled for the day after surgery. If you have traveled quite a distance, the doctor can sometimes perform your surgery in the morning and schedule your follow-up appointment later that same day so you will not have to travel again. In most cases, you‘ll then return to your optometric physician for further care.
Also, at check out, we’ll give you a questionnaire to evaluate your experience with us. We want to know how we can provide better cataract care to all our patients.
Cataract Care Recovery
Most patients experience significant vision improvement within a couple of days after their surgery, but the eye continues to heal for the next 4 weeks.
We recommend that you have your final eye examined by your optometric physician 4-6 weeks after surgery. If you get glasses before waiting this recommended period of time, your eyes may change before you get to enjoy your new glasses, and a second new pair might be necessary.
